    Default 200 series Hiace tech/conversions

    Hi all

so my TRH201 model hiace as 290,000kms,
its chugging fuel at around 330km's per tank and the engine just feels like its always working to hard,
its thrown a code/engine light and it asking for cat converter replacement the cat is around 2k local from toyota, cheapest even i can get it for is $1500 then there is the O2 sensor ($500) and then a Air/fuel mixture sensor (isnt that an O2 sensor anyway?) another $500

so with that cost added up its just stupid to keep the original motor so im looking to do a 2JZGE conversion probably VVTI, the van seems to already have a W series box

Now there barely any forums/info around about this model hiace so looking for abit of advice/ideas on both fixing the old motor or the conversion

    Thanks in advance

I would fix the motor you have in there, firstly why do you have to replace the cat convertor,A/F sensor and o2 sensor all at the same time?
Honestly get someone who knows what they are doing to diagnose the issue correctly, it just sounds like they are guessing.
Most of the time when A/f sensor and o2 sensor codes come up it is the sensors telling the ecu that they are stuck on full rich or lean, so the sensors are actually working correctly and replacing them will do nothing.
Does the engine run rough or missfire or burning oil?
The cause of the codes could be something simple like blocked/leaking injectors, dirty maf sensor, or exhaust leakage which will cause those codes to come up.
Has the check light just come on or has it been on a while?

I think you will find they run a r151 box too

The toyota tech have confirmed the engine code is the cats, ive bashed one out, might try bashing out the other,
engine runs fine just feels sluggish and uses alot of fuel,
when i bashed out the first cat the engine light went off for a while after a ecu reset, but now its back on, ill get rid of the other cat and see what happens, If the light is still on after that then it must be the sensors,

Doesnt have R151 has R351, looks so close to a W series tho

You will find it wont be the sensors at all is what i was trying to say, the sensors may be picking up a rich or lean condition which is causing the lights to come on and bringing up the codes for the o2 sensors because the ecu thinks that because the sensors have been reporting a full rich/lean condition for so long that the ecu assumes the sensors are fucked.
Most of the time this is not the case and something is up with the engine like the maf dirty or injectors and because you are saying that it is using heaps of fuel if the injectors are leaking in a bit extra fuel and the A/F sensor will pick up the rich condition then the o2 sensor after the cat will still pick up the rich condition and also assume the cat convertor is fucked.
It would be very rare for all three things to fuck up at exactly the same time.
I realise those are the codes that the ecu says but that is not always the cause if you know what i mean.
I have had to sort out quite a few of these with codes similar that people have replaced the sensors then the lights come back on.
