    Default 4AGE alternator on 4AGZE

Haven't pulled the supercharger off yet to get a good look so hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. I want to fit a GE alternator once I ditch the S/C but I think the drive shaft bracket on a ZE is bolted where the bottom alt bracket goes. Is this correct?

the alternators are the same, the gze alt mounts under the p/s pump (the alt and ps pump are mounted to a big bracket on the gze motor. mine is rwd so it mounts where the blower does on the gze motor.

yes the drive shaft bearing support mounts behind the blower bracket.

The bracket for the driveshaft wont be an issue.
I've converted a FWD GZE to have all 4A-GE accessoried before (ditching the charger and stuff, ready to go turbo).... and the drive shaft bearing bracket had no issue, it bolts behind the 4AGE alternator bracket.

Just convert all your accessories to 4AGE.

I thought the blower bracket and driveshaft bracket were one, so it comes off, ge alt bracket goes on and gze alt goes in.

PS and AC already gone so this will tidy it all up.

    Thanks.

yep - definitely two separate brackets.
I distinctly remember, cos i had to spend around 2 months tracking down all the 4AGE brackets and engine ancilliaries, cos that guy wanted to keep power steering and aircon, but was going to go turbo.

Are you sure the alternators are the same, gap in the ge bracket is about 10mm too small?

Water outlet where top bracket bolts on seems to be different too.

only reason i say, is because when ive needed an alternator for a 4age/ze ive always just asked for ae92/82 ge alt and never had an issue. im using my fwd gze alt on my rwd ge setup and the alternator was bought from the wreckers as just a fwd 4ag corolla alt.

the alternator might have a inner sleeve on one of the mounts (usually lower), you can "persuade" the sleeve in the mount to take up some gap.

have you got all of the brackets for the swap ?

i just checked part numbers with 1988 4age and 4agze, the part numbers for the alt are different. 27060‑16151(4age) 27060‑16131(4agze)

my bad, just looked an an old 4agze pic and the alts arnt the same.
i must of been lucky, getting the correct alternators between gze/ge

    No probs, appreciate your help.

I noticed the sleeve in the bracket but i need about 10mm, there is a fair bit of meat in the bracket so I might be able to chop it back if it lines up with the pulleys.

    Thanks again.

dead right. the top water outlet is different on the 4agze/4age. on the 4age the top alt mount/tensioner bolts to it, it doesnt have this on the 4agze. and the pipe that runs from it along the rear of the head is different and fouls the knock sensor. might be different on other cars, but the aw11 has a external reg alt on the 4agze and a internal on the 4age.

everything feral said. i needed to change the water outlet off the head as well as modifying rthe water line that runs along the block when i converted from 4agze to 4age alternators. as well as modding the regulators (aw11 only)

    Yeah... this guy is right!!
I remember all this stuff now!

From memory, i ended up cutting the heater hose output line from the back of the top water output to make it clear the 4A-GE intake manifold as well.... cos i didnt have original hard line from the 4AGE (I pinched the hard line from the GZE and plugged it into the 4age top outlet housing).

We are talking around 7-8 years ago now.... so im fuzzy on details.

Just got back from wreckers with the outlet and metal line, going to pull it apart over the weekend to see how far off the ze alt is.

Wondering if anyone has a ge alt that they can measure the length from the face of the pulley to the face of the big part of the mount on the alt body?
