Did you pack the pump with grease before it went in?
Maybe try taking the filter off and block the outlet on the block with a finger?
Hi Guys,
Following rebuilding my 3S i am struggling to build any oil pressure through cranking.
I can feel air pumping through the engine with the filler cap off, and there is a small amount of oil present in the oil cooler lines, but no pressure
Any suggestions to try and get pressure?
One suggestion my dad has had is to drip feed back down through the pump, which i may yet try to do.
Cheers
Nathan

If you have a compressor there just give it a couple of bursts of air down the dipstick tube while cranking it.
should have packed the oil pump with vasoline and filled the oil filter up with oil during assembly

Best i can tell no pressure.
The idiot light never went out, and just hooked up an oil pressure gauge and still nothing.
Will have to try to gravity feed it

just as an aside , after i put my motor back in , i cranked it for a good 10 sec and the light didnt go off. thought hhmm , pulled off the filter and it had some oil in it, so i thought il start it and wait 2 secs and if its still like that il switch it off,
1 sec after start , all good.

How long did you try cranking for?
I had to crank for a few minutes with the plugs out to get pressure up. (with no oil cooler or anything)
Some oil in cooler is encouraging.

yeah it cant be far off... it can take a good minute or so. i like the idea of pressurising the sump.
dropped a new donk in my daily on tuesday night and it prob took about 40 seconds for the light to go out (rebuilt and primed pump, dry filter)

I cranked it first time i tried until the starter motor was smoking (not constant running, but it got to that stage)
Today gave it about 6-10 20s hits...

just stay on the key til the light goes out (max 2 mins i guess)

That was what i tried first time, no love
I even (stupidly in hindsight) fired it up, because like Blake, the light always took a sec or 2 to go out.
Even when it was running, the idiot light still stayed on....

something is not right...
was the pump primed as above with vas or grease?
stock oil system? all oil passages clean? didnt miss a bearing or something? any obvious leaks?

Pump was not primed, which i think is possibly a large part of the problem. My understanding was they would self prime without too much of an issue.
Stock...ish Gen 3 pump, sump, on Gen 2 engine, and an aftermarket oil cooler installed.
No obvious leaks at all, and certainly hope there wasn't a missed bearing!
I'll give the gravity feed a go tomorrow, and will ensure the filter is full as well and see how i go.
