Default Wanted recommendations, 2jzgte - which computer to buy and which tuner to use?

Hey all, time has come and i have upgraded my 2J falcon to a single T70 and external gate. I'm now in the market for a after market computer and a proper tune. I was originally going to go with a Microtech and get it tuned at Blacktrack in Maitland NSW, seeing their good work with the cressida. I can't seem to get in contact with them and was told that they were shutting shop?
Anywho, i'm looking for suggestions of who to use with which computer. I would like to go with the microtech but don't know who else works with them. I know i will have to travel either to Sydney or Brisbane to get a reputable tuner no doubt.
If anybody has any ideas on costs that would be great too. I will most likely do most of the wiring work for the computer myself... as i'm a sparky by trade.

for the love of god, don't get a microtech.

I've got an Autronic SM4 in my 2j, which is a great ECU. The latest generation of most of the big name brands are pretty good, and there's nothing special about a 2j to swing it either way.

In terms of Tuners, Mark @ MRC (castle hill, sydney) tuned mine and did a great job, but make sure you check with your chosen tuner what ECUs they like working with

If you don't mind me asking, what is the complaints with Microtech? They seem reasonably popular.
Yeah of course i will be checking with perspective tuners as to which computers they recommend, got to do the ring around yet.

Plain and simple, you pay to much for them! A complete lack of user configurable inputs and outputs, shit mapping density and no transferability to different engines types without sending it back to Microwreck for them to reconfigure a different crank angle sensor at cost!
No auto tune feature, they will only work with Microguess's own rip off wideband AFR meter for data logging and you have to pay extra for data logging . If you want wideband data logging (not autotune, just data logging!) you have to pay an extra $725!!!
    No dual maps!
No electronic boost control. Want EBC, go and spend another $400 minimum. You've just more than double the price of the Microshite if you wanted wideband data logging and EBC.
No traction control or launch control.
This list of what they don't provide could get pretty long............

If your tuner 'only' tunes Microtech, go somewhere else!

On the note of recommendations, I am happy with my Adaptronic E420c (superseded) but others will probably mention that they aren't a big fan of the tuning software.

i dont need every little bell and whistle that other ecus have

this being said if i were in the market right now ide probably go for a haltech and being down that way ide speak to dale at castle hill exhausts

Ok, i like it when people actually explain whats wrong with a product, thank you very much.
I was talking to MRC today about the Link G4 extreme, it sounds pretty good.
Ahh the car is a purpose built drag car, it gets trailered everywhere and never sees the road.

I contacted Justin from Blacktrack about this post, he's happy to sort you out, i will pm you his mobile number, he said for you to give him a ring. He's not closed down as such, just selective of what he takes on.

He mainly deals with Haltech and microtech and will steer you in the right direction, i can't recommend him enough. He also comes to the track when racing which is another big advantage, to be honest he's gone from being my mechanic to a really close mate, and is a genuine top bloke which makes a world of difference.

Ive had real good results with the haltech e11v2. Does everything and more. I dont use half of it. I also went to Just Engine Management. Adam (owner) sorted all my problems that 2 dickhead tuners could not sort out or tune properly. I went from a miss at 5500rpm and 250rwhp to 434rwhp and 7000rpm. He fixed everything in 3 days and for 2 years now ive been over the moon with it.

Id say look at all the 2j cars on several forums. See their results. Call a few tuners and see what they use, like, recommend. Some will sell xxxx brand and say its fantastic. See what they have tuned and with what ecus. I know Just Engine Management tunes everything. Go on their website and see the results.

Im only recommending them as Adam did a great job that i was more than happy with. I dont work for him or sell him stuff. I am just a very happy customer.

Microtech are alright for rotors and drag cars, you only need a rough idle and a WOT tune
But for a street car toss the thing in the bin and buy something that is not 10yr out of date.

see that comment has me rather confused as mine is a street car and not a rotor... while i was working i was daily driving it in peak hour traffic without a single problem...

it cold starts fine and behaves like it should when cruising and works well under throttle...

Im not getting into the whole computer debate, all I've got say is, I've got an old MTX8 that works just as midnight has said. I used to hate the thing and it used to run terrible, i had it tuned by a handful of people with no great success, used to run rough and idle rough ect.
Ya sure it has no bells or whistles and there are far better computers out there, don't get me wrong i wouldn't buy an Mtx8 series now, but why upgrade???? It does everything i want it too.

yeah but the original poster is in the market for a NEW ecu...... and i would hardly call what Microtech currently offer as "new".
More like recycled 12yo technology IMO.

For similar pricing you can buy an Adaptronic which have far more features and better tuning capability.

Talk to your preferred tuner, and use what they recommend.

    [thread jack]

While on the topic of *JZ's + ECU's

For a dedicated track (circuit) car, why would you choose an ECU that can do full sequential Fuel / Ign (say a Link G4 Extreme or Vipec V88)
over one that could only do Waste Spark and Batch / Semi-Seq Fuel (say Link G4 Storm (even the Atom) or Vipec V44)

Ignoring all the bells and whistles (data logging / traction control / boost control / blah blah blah), obviously even an 'old tech' MTX8 can do the job....
