    Default NGK Plugs

I am replacing the plugs on my MX83 Cressida. Yes it still has a 7MGE pushing it along. The plug that I have chosen is a NGK BCPR5EP -11. Does the gap on this plug have to be changed from the box, if so what setting? Also what is the torque setting for tightening these plugs?

Not sure about gap setting, but I've always set torque to finger tight then 1/4 turn or so until reasonably tight.

Also, nickel based anti seize is a good idea on the threads too.

the -11 means the gap is set to 1.1mm, whereas no extra number at the end means it is 0.8mm gap.
still need to gap to whatever your vehicle needs, and check gap as set at factory, but better to choose plug based on gap required, so the electrode doesn7t get bent too much

first time you install plug, it's contact then some amount of rotation (been a while, usually says it on the box)

Lose the P in the part number, they run better on copper plugs than platinum for about 10% of the price

Leave the gap alone and just put them in as is.

There's no such thing as copper spark plugs except ones made 60-90 years ago that eroded away pretty fast, though there is a bit of copper inside modern plugs solely for advertising purposes.
ALL outa the box MUST be gapped, if only for consistency's sake!!
Platinum be best for long life & almost zero gap change, iridium ridiculous $$ for zero benefit and steel(oft times advertised as copper) best for filing & re-gapping every 6,000k or tossing for a different heat range.

Ngk plugs are pretty consistently gapped out of the box, I go through a heap of these and have never had to re gap them

Think he means the $2.50 ones with a copper core and graphite electrode.

I think the VE even needs manifold off to do plugs. Fuck that for a joke!

Precious metal plugs actually provide more efficient spark as they take less voltage to spark for the equivalent "copper" plug, and you should never re-gap a precious metal plug. That being said i use copper plugs as i like to see how they are after 10,000km.

Tranverse V6? No worries, just make sure your rubber grommet is nice and tight. I've done it before.

Boxer engine is more like where NOT to use copper plugs

It's more the fact that most transverse V6s require you to remove the intake manifold to get at the rear bank....hence a lot of them spec copper plugs for the front bank (which are easy to access and thus can change often) and platinum for the rear bank (so you only have to change them once in a blue moon)

Better than some boxers where they find it easier to undo the engine mounts and drop the whole engine enough to clear the chassis rails.

My old transverse V6 was fortunate enough to get to the plugs without removing the intake, but I know what you mean; rear cam cover gasket took me all day to do.

Platinum plugs are ridiculously expensive in Aus too. $21 per plug at SCA, or buy them on Amazon and get them shipped to a friend in the states for $20 for a set of four (NGK 3350's in my case). Only $10 to be shipped from the states to Aus. I'd still change platinum plugs after 50,000km or so and check them every 10,000km anyway.
