    Default r150 Vs r151f

Doing a conversion on a hilux and just seeing which is the better box of the two?

    The r150 or the r151F?

I no that 1st and 2nd gear are different but the other gears are the same.

I can get the r151f out of a 02 turbo diesel hilux if i want.

    Any help would be appreciated.

if you know the differences, and can accept these, id go the later model one...If you were picky, you might be able to source a rooted r154 and get some gears out of that also...

    Go the r151f

Also depends what else you have sitting there? the truck box will be crap for a 6cyl turbo, unless you have like a 2.8 diff (you'll run out of gears/revs and have no speed built up)

for a 6 or 4 worked NA, itd be perfect...but then the question posed is why go for souch a tough box

Edit: i noticed you mentioned its going into a hilux - but what motor is it bolting to?

I have a 1993 toyota hilux 4x4 extra cab sr5.i have had the car for over a 6 years and is imac.It has alot of aftertmarket mods to it,real head turner.

The past year i have been doing alot of research and got myself a 22ret engine complete from the states.

It is going to be a total rebuild hoping to produce over 300hp.

Of course not stock bigger turbo, forged pistons etc.

Thats good news about the r151f because i got one off a 2002 turbo diesel hilux which only had 5,000ks on the clock.

I also have a adapter plate from marks to make it fit.

By christmas i hope my project will be finished.

I just hope i dont have to machine the input shaft and shorten the tailshaft?

Here are the ratios of the 2 boxes.

notice the difference in 1st nad 2nd gear.

I think in mine(r151f) the 1 and 2 gear are going to be short changes?

    Third Gear: 1.436:1
    Fourth Gear: 1.00:1
    Fifth Gear: 0.838:1

    R151F
A 4WD transmission found in many Toyota trucks.

    Ratios:

    First Gear: 4.313:1
    Second Gear: 2.330:1

R150 will be nicer to drive around town, R151f will be better for crawling 4WD, what will you be doing more?

I had an R151f behind my 1JZ in a Bundy and it was a PITA to drive around town, twin turbo 6's and short first gears don't make for enjoyable driving

thanks for the reply i will be driving more around town then 4wd driving.

I GOT THE WHOLE BOX IN GOOD NICK FOR $1500.00 so i grabed it.

Of a toyota hilux 2002 turbo disel only had 5, 000 ks on the clock,so i couldnt let it go.

the other reason i grabed it was that it is the same box used in the states behind the 22ret.

    same as my build up.

i am still researching to see if the ratios are the same.

i think tho the states r151f has a 23 spline where our box have a 21 spline?

If i get the state r151f ratios ill post it?

How much power you running against the box?

Is 1st and 2 nd that bad????

The trouble i have found is that all the input shaft lenths vary among the different engines the r150/1 boxs use , yes the bellhousings swap but is the input shaft the right lenth?

So far i come up with the states ratios for the 22ret R151F at this link.

    http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showfl...=264689&page=1
    &view=collapsed&sb=9&o=&fpart=all&vc=1

The ratios are very similar to the aussie R151f if not the same.

I found out that they are 23 spline and are gear driven.

Aussie R151f are 21 spline and chain driven.

Looks like i will stay with waht ive got aussie R151f and see how i will go.

I will not change the gears to R154 as the R151f are tougher 4x4 gears.

I had 400 HP. You will find that 4WD's also have these shorter first couple of gears as they were also needed to motivate heavy 4WD's off the line with unpowered engines. With a powerfull "unlaggy" stock turbo 1JZ it was really quite annoying to drive.

Aussie R151f is also comes with a gear driven T/C in the LJ7X's.
