    Default Removing a lock Washer?

    Hey all,
I was hoping to dismantle my Caldina ST215 Manual shifter as i've found that my zzt231 celica gearstick is shorter (the dimensions are all the same apart from that).

The only issue is that the mechanism has a pin that is being held by one of these washers.

The thing is, there is no space in between each finger like there is in the picture below:

It actually looks more like this one (but with less blank area around the lock area

I tried hitting the pin but that just made the pin hold in even more. I'm not able to hit the pin from the other way since it has a large flat circle washer integrated which is bigger than the hole I need the pin to slide through.

I was thinking of using the dremel with the cut off wheel and cut off each of the pins but I didn't want to damage the plastic shifter mechanism in the process.

I'd imagine the dremel will have no worries cutting through if i'm careful. There is no space to try and wedge it up (its right up against the shifter mechanism housing.

The other thing I was going to ask is if anyone knows where I could get a replacement washer like the one above. Would I no doubt just measure the shaft width of the pin and take it to a hardware place?

    Thanks in advance.

Hit it harder! The lock washer will fold in on itself, then the pin will knock through...Alternately, twist and pull the pin while holding the lock washer.
Replacements are available from places like Repco, SuperCheap et al...

If you can get underneath it, flex it with a screwdriver and/or long nose pliers and you might be able to break it in half.

I think i'll have to give it a harder hit, thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it tonight.

Thats a good suggestion too. The gap between the washer and the face surface is soooo close.
