Default Changing Diff Center in JZA80

    Hey guys,

Im changing the center of my diff to an aftermarket unit.

Can this be done in your home garage with KMart tools???

Do I need to remove the pumpkin from teh car itself? Should I just take it to a Diff place?

while I've never changed the a80 diff centre (I believe yours is the slightly more agricultural b-series?) I'd highly recomment giving it to a diff place, and getting the bearings done at the same time.

It's thoroughly doable in the garage, but imho time/fuckaround vs effort is not worth it compared to giving a decent diff shop diff, centre, and new bearings and telling them to make it better for a small amount of money

Getting the backlash set correctly can be a very tedious process.... Take it to a trusted diff shop and save yourself the damage to the garage from tools thrown in frustration..
    Now - 1988 GX81 Mark II- 7MGTE, GT35R, TiAL 44m, Microtech, 550cc injectors, R154, Xtreme clutch, LSD.... Low boost tune done = 330rwhp@1 BAR...
Then - 1989 MX83 - The big scrap heap in the sky...

Setting the pre-load and backlash is simple as all fuck to do, need a few basic tools (bearing blue, torque wrench, spring scale and string) and the ability to read the service manual.

Not worth the $$$ a shop charges, apprentice probably does it anyway.

Looks like I have an issue with the diff

I ordered a Cusco LSD for it. First issue is, when the diff place took mine apart, says one tooth is broken from the crown wheel. He says it doesnt look like wear, but more like something has hit it....second, he says the Centre I ordered Cusco 1.5Way LSD 167 L15
http://www.cusco.co.jp/products/pdf/P182-191.pdf is 10mm too short! Any input from you guys?? From the site, it says it suits NA 6 Speed and 6 speed from 96 up (Mines a late 96)

Looks like I might need to source a new diff also

My Car original came with the A03B. I swapped it for an A02B (For the shorter ratios)

SZ 5-spd and Auto---- 4.083:1, LSD optional (but rare) small diff, small flange, Code A01A

SZ-R with V161 6-spd---- 3.769:1, LSD optional but usually fitted, small diff, ???? flange** Code A02B

RZ Auto & All GZ---- 3.769:1, LSD optional*** small diff, big flange, Code A02A (non LSD) Code A02B (LSD)

RZ 6-spd 93-5/96 (V160)---- 3.266:1, LSD standard, big diff, big flange, cooling 'ears' on diff cover, Code B03B

RZ, RZ-S 6-spd 6/96-2002 (V161)---- 3.266:1, LSD standard small diff, big flange, normal diff cover **** Code A03B

I think this may confirm that the LSD is for a B not A series and Cuscos website is incorrect with the part numbers?

    Check this
