    Default Viscous Coupling rebuilder

    Hi there ,

i am soon embarking on a 185 gt4 adventure and im looking for a nice model.

This is the first of many questions i will have and its in regards to the Viscous Coupling unit in this model.

I have researched the way they operate and i understand that part of it what i need to know is who can service these Viscous Coupling units with new fluid or goo ? in my research i can see that they are made to be servicible and will need to have a hole tapped into the housing.

If this is not possible are there replacements available form toyota? i can only guess how much they will cost

any suggestions would be most helpfull

This is the only option im aware of: http://www.alltrac.net/phpBB2/viewto...36743&start=60

    A hole isnt enough.
You have to cut one end off and take the discs out for cleaning.
New seals would be a good idea too.

Mario's guy is doing it pretty cheaply really.
The torque rating is less than Bates used to run, but they can go higher if you ask for it i think.

interesting. i am not too fussed with mine right now as i have more than enough traction.
seems like it would be a significant effort for minimal gain , just get a later model box.

    Group buy... possibly.

Maybe if we get enough together we can look at a local option.
I know Bates Motorsport have had them done in the past.

I would look at doing it myself if i could find one or two spares and a source for the replacement fluid.

    emailed NBM,
the response I got (with in 20 mins I might add):
    Hello Josh

The company we used (which was in Germany) is no longer around so we have not been able to find a replacement company to rebuild them since, the maximum we ever saw from a std upgrade viscous was 412nm (dia x plate numbers), we purchased the last 10 viscous about 10 years ago & we only have 2 units left which we will keep for our own cars!!

    Sorry we can’t help.

not what we wanted to hear but none the less a speedie answer.

    so Austria is it?
