how much boost can the 3sgte engine handle ?

does anyone know how much the st185 gt4 3sgte engine can handle on boost without putting the engine at risk and still 'safe' with a ct26 kinugawa high flow turbo? i was thinking of installing a fuel cut defender on the factory ecu and have it set at 16psi. I know the factory ecu has a fuel cut at 12psi but would it still be safe if i install a fuel cut defender and have it set on something like 16psi or is this too much for the engine ?

My 3sgte runs 16psi just fine. Stock internals, HKS 2530 turbo, larger injectors and fuel pump though - I think this may be your limiting factor..

are you using the standard ecu or an aftermarket one ? well i got a wallbro fuel pump installed on the car but stock internals and injectors and still the ct26 turbo but just highflow aftermarket .. not really sure if it makes a difference compared to the stock toyota ct26 though. do you know if the stock injectors can handle it if i turn up the boost to 16psi or would i definitely be needing to change them into higher cc's ? and is 16psi definitely 'safe' to run on the 3sgte engine with stock internals without having to put it at risk ?

Yes 16psi is safe for stock internals - my car is proof of this.

As to whether the injectors can handle it, I'm not sure and don't want to give you a wrong answer. Years ago when I was working it out for myself I used formulas from here:

thanks for the tip mate. to cut on cost i was thinkin' of just keeping the standard ecu and use a fuel cut defender so i could raise the boost instead of having to invest on a aftermarket ecu and tuning and such. the engine has roughly around 150,000 k's on it with stock internals.

just out of curiousity as yours is running on 16psi would you say this is powerful enough so that you can feel the 'pull'. as it is a awd car i know you wont feel it as much as a rwd turbo'd car but is it 'satisfying enough' ? my gt4 is currently running on around 10-12 psi depending on the density of the air (it picks up more boost on night driving) but i feel a lot of back pressure and i think the reason may be i got a bit of restriction on my exhaust. i have ordered a catback 3inch exhaust on ebay and waiting for it to come in .. here's hoping it fixes that issue. once i have it installed then i'll most likely put up the boost to 16psi and hopefully she'll run fine.

out of the question would you happen to know where i can get my hands on a group a front bar/side skirts ? my gt4 came with a veilside bodykit when i brought it and i wanna put it back to factory body but finding one is so hard lol .

However, thats with a better turbo and tuned. Wont be getting 268hpatw from a std ct26 and ecu.

jonathan yee: 500 bux genuine toyota part ? didnt think they would still have it ordered as it is an old model .. but if they are that would be great .. i might pop by at toyota tomorrow and confirm if they are. with standard ecu and ct26 aftermarket highflowed turbo .. how much power would i be expecting if i was to run it at 16psi ? im still waiting for my exhaust to arrive from u.s and im gonna carry on with my plans ..
