Default Microtech LT8 and trigger wheel set up 3TGTE

Hey guys "trying" to finish this fecking car, got a forward facing inlet manifold on its way so have to lock the dizzy and do the trigger wheel thingo but after speaking to an auto electrician this morning he thinks my old LT8 wont be able to run that set up. Now I have called Microtech and am waiting for them to get back to me, hopefully it can be re configured, I know that it being the LT8 and not the LT8-X it is limited in this area but I am hoping to hear from someone who has maybe used this combo and what they did to make it work etc. Simon with the black GT springs to mind but it doesn't seem like his website is up anymore.

I don't need to hear about how crap microtechs are etc obviously if I can get away with not having to buy a new computer I will be happy but if I have to re send it to HO and stuff around too much/Too much $$$ and an alternate computer can be sourced for a little more that will do the job then I am open to suggestions.

    Much thanks in advance
    Nath

    Hi Nath,
I have a microtech on my 3tgte now, its an LtX8. At the moment I'm also looking at doing the same thing as you.

I plan to sell my Microtech LTX8 soon and possibly use the Mircotech LT10. I closed my web site off awhile ago but have since started a Facebook page called the same as my old site classic celicas and more.

I plan to post updates in the near future including the set up of CAS. At this stage thinking of modifying a 4AGE dizzy for this as they have a 24 tooth and reference too. I like the idea of a modified dizzy instead of a sensor on the crank as it rotates half the speed, can have a home sensor and doesn't have any vibration issues through the crank.

fwiw I've been running a megasquirt with a 36 tooth gear bolted to the main pulley (with a VR sensor) and am really impressed. Worked first time (after I found a diode I'd installed backwards..which took a while). Brilliant system.

    Nath,
Microtech stopped upgrading the LT8 and LTX8 a couple of years ago due to their age, I think they still reconfigure the LT8X-s.

Hence why I need to buy a new ECU, sounds like you are in the same position. People sometimes bag Microtech but I've had one for years and never had an issue so I Plan to stick with them unless someone tells me something thats better at a similar price.

I'm thinking of using either excel style twin post coils or maybe go for MSD units.

Thanks guys that's a shame! Looks like I am just going to use my current inlet manifold and do the IC pipework the old fashioned way. I just cant justify buying a new computer etc when there is relatively little to do to get it running in its current guize. Time to just get the thing on the road again!

I will look to upgrade the rest down the track and maybe just build the engine I have sitting there on the side. I like the idea od the modified dizzy Simon, will look into that down the track.

    Cheers

I just bought a 4age dizzy and now trying to work out how I can make it fit into my 3tgte, will post pics shortly on my face book page, "classic celicas and more", https://www.facebook.com/pages/Class...537?ref=stream
