Hey! Been having heaps of probs with my car and have given in on finding it. Has anyone had any good experiences with a mechanic to diagnose my hesitation problem for my celica gt4?

All mechanics can read the error msg from the ecu, that will probably help find the problem. Most common solution to hesitation is new ignition leads and plugs or new fuel filter and or pump as hesitation is from bad spark or fuel pressure.

unless you go to someone who specializes in old jap motors you're more than likely going to be paying someone to learn their way around the car until they find the problem. unless there's something massively wrong the ecu wont pick up the codes as the early ecu's (from the late 80's and early 90's) are stone age compared to newer, smarter ecu's in cars today.

from my experience hesitation on boosted motors come from:
    1) fuel supply - fuel filter clogged, faulty pressure regulator, failing fuel pump
    2) spark - bad leads, faulty coil pack(s), bad earth on ignitor/coil packs
    3) electrical - bad earths in general (fuel pump, ignitor, ecu, etc)

i would be checking these before paying someone to do it. if you're not technically minded i would suggest asking for some help from fellow toymod members, maybe beers, bbq and a night in a shed will get it solved? otherwise hand it over to a workshop and hope for the best... if you're not in a rush and happy to pay cash i know a bloke in Cranbourne.

    cheers
    SHEPPO..

Any good mechanic can fix your car, unless there is some celica specific common problems that plague those cars then a specialist in celicas might find it quicker.

Need more info on what it's doing, does it do it after startup, cold, hot or both? Does it do it in certain gears or under certain conditions or load?
