nah. rattle gun man... oxy plus rattle gun
Since my members ride thread was getting cluttered, I'm moving it here.
Ok, I've successfully removed the front half of my engine bay to get to the crank pulley. I loaded up a 1.5m "persuader" to the end of my breaker bar, wedged it against the ground and cranked the starter.
Nada. got a nice metallic "click" of the breaker bar hitting the extension, and the extension hitting the ground, but the bolt wouldn't bugde.
I've just hit what I can see with inox, cracking out the gas torch to heat the bitch up... but failing this, do I have any other reasonable options before crying off to a mechanic?

well, you did make short work of that 1jz one.....
has your gf left yet? if so, I demand you come over and heave this bastard off![]()
yes if you dont have a rattle gun you could always get a mate to hold a big spanner on the cam with the rocker cover off, if the clutch isnt holding! and make sure your are not tighterning it instead of loosening it!
bit of heat can help aswell, but be careful you dont melt rubber bits![]()
have you tried giving putting a bit of wood over the bolt head and giveing it a few whacks with a hammer? you might have to use an extenssion if you cant get a swing!
Mick - my timing belt snapped, so there's not a lot of point wedging my cams
I'll try a bit of shock-loosening with my baby sledge if the heat + inox doesn't loosen it
if your carful with a length of wood as the sides of the pulley are not that strond. Youn can put a but of friction on the pulley with the length of wood, with on end against the ground etc
ah mick, if bigomy and homosexual marriage were legal I'd call a celebrant tomorrow.
Whether it was the baby sledge or the inox, it worked
of course, tightening it back up could be a very serious problem, but I'll worry about that later. anyone have a rattle gun that does 320nm?
sensational! tightening it back up will be fine! when you do it, just check again after you have driven it a few times to make sure! then you can always drive to a mates house that has a rattle gun if you think it is needed.
that's the plan.. someone had put green coolant in it anyway, so I'll give it a run with some water in the rad, take it to a place with rattle gun, pull the radiator and get that bolt on properly
well, I may have found the reason my car chewed its timing belt so early.
this is my crankshaft timing pulley:
does that look like it could be the cause? I don't really want to replace it, but I know I should.
Ouch, thats a nasty little chip there, looks like a rock or something got in and wedged between the belt and pulley.

yeah, and it's a $120 part, and none in stock at the moment!
Erk, no-compatibility with anything else im guessing. Or gankability.

no, it's a 2jz unique part :\
and after checking the timing belt, it looks like this was definitely the reason it shat itself (I think more the bits of metal that broke off then ate away at the timing belt)
so a couple more days till she's back on the road.
Hm, that sucks. Have you tried a Lexus dealership? I know technically its all Toyota but when i was shopping for 2JZ bits a while ago i had to go through Lexus as the Lexus dealer in Melbourne wasnt talking to the Toyota ones.....
