A 4Y will bolt straight in and looks identical to the 2Y It is 2.2 Litre.
Hey guys I have a 1995 yn85r hilux and it has a gutless 2Y motor in it. I'm looking to swap it with something that has a bit more power. I've been thinking 1jzgte, but I've also seen a turbo charged 4agze come up locally. What are some good options I could choose from?
And does anyone know whether the 2Y and 22R engine mounts are the same? I've been told they may be but just need to make sure.
Cheers![]()

Well I too own a gutlux and are tired of being overtaken by chicks in Barinas on the freeway
Just bought a new engine for my 98 2.7 petrol hilux... LS1

You doing a custom job or have you found a kit? It's a bit harder for me cause I can't find anything at all on 2Y motors, or kits for them, 3RZ is heaps easier![]()
Well I know a guy who is selling a 3RZ lol
I will be doing most of it custom, only because I am trying to avoid spending thousands unnecessarily. I can fab up most of the parts needed and try and nut out the electrics with a bit of time, a few forum posts and a shot load of beer haha.
I will be ordering an adapter for the tx case to bolt to the 4l80, the rest I will attempt to do myself, mainly to not blow over the limited budget I have run past the Leader of the Oppositionfor stamp of approval.
Seems daunting at first but I don't think there is too much to it, might retract that comment in following weeks.
Are you planning on bolting up a turbo? what s the purpose of the swap? I went LS, not after a drag car, just chasing torque for pulling camper offroad.
There are plenty of 1uz swaps and engines are dirt cheap. Almost bought a complete soarer for $900! Pull all the gear off and dump the shell. 1uz's go hard and sound awesome.
Other than that my toyota engine experience is quite limited.
Good luck
Camos, that's not an LS1.
It's a car on a trailer and there's no way it will fit under the bonnet of your hilux.
(just trolling to see if you have a build thread).
your right, that aint an LS1...
But this is!
As far as fitting it in, it has been done before.
Actually the dimensions are smaller than the 1uz that has also been done many times before.
