Default What diff is in my mk3 supra?

Hi all, I bought a MA70 Supra with a 1JZ swap which is apparently out of a Soarer. The trans and LSD are likely both original MA items, instead of Soarer items which the seller claimed they might be.

When I bought it jacked up the rear and turned the wheel by hand. Both spun in the same direction. Next did the bogan test and it left 2 black lines so looks like it has a LSD.

Lately I've been noticing that when getting on the loud pedal, feels like it's spinning up just one wheel.

Would like someone to confirm if the following thinking is true: As it's open wheeling, which I believe factory torsens out of Soarers will not, they will simply break, most likely this car still has the MA70 clutch LSD?

If so, to repair the worn clutch pack LSD, would a reputable diff place be able to just use generic items he might have on hand to tighten up the diff? Or would I need something more specific like a clutch disc pack and just hand the lot over for a rebuild?

    Cheers,
    Mike

From memory (other should be able to confirm) a Torsen diff will spin the rear wheels in opposite directions when the rear is on a jack. So it sounds like you have a worn clutch type LSD. It should be a G series, Hilux diff.

Try calling a few diff shops and seeing what bits they have, and what they can do to a Supra/Hilux LSD , but unfortunately given you don't know exactly what is in there I reckon you'll just have to pull the centre and take it somewhere to discuss.
I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.

    Cheers, that confirms my suspicions.

Found a local place that can assist, he reckons he's rebuilt a few Supra diffs and has a trick to make them tighter than factory. Knowing it's also out of a HILUX that's fantastic, hopefully parts availability is better.

Given I haven't had the guts of one apart don't take my word that the Hilux and Supra diffs share internals. They use the same size ring gear (8" or G-series) and the centres and bits could well interchange, but sometimes it's trickier than that.
