i can't see why this wouldn't work as long as the sensor didn't break down from fuel exposure . That would be nasty!!
I was thinking of trying to use an oil pressure gauge transducer to monitor my fuel pressure and make sure my pressure doesn't drop or surge?
Anybody know any reason why you can't use an oil pressure gauge sensor for petrol??

My dad has a 2.6 efi Rodeo, which has a bad habit of fuel pumps dying. He has an oil pressure sender with gauge on the fuel line so he knows when it has happened again.
So far it has been a few years with no issues.
Oil pressure sensor SHOULD(!) be petroleum resistant, and have no problems. It'd be a bit of a worry if it did!
yeah you can. i pulled a setup out of an R32 on the weekend. they had an oil pressure gauge used for fuel pressure on a second fuel rail that had two extra injectors in the intercooler pipe.
it seemed to work fine, no leaks and the gauge was reading good. i would say that its all good to go ahead with.

Now I just need to go and buy one. Haven't bought gauges for a long time. VDO used to be a good brand. What is the go these days??
yeah, and autometer. there are several japanese brands that are also good and look pretty sweet when lit up.
you know you have to use the electrical type and not the mechanical sort. (im sure you are aware tho)![]()

You're better off getting a proper fuel pressure gauge though as they have a more meaningful scale (ie you're not likely to see 100psi of fuel pressure). As mentioned Autometer make some nice ones:

I've had a $25 super cheap auto oil sender and gauge connected to the fuel line for a few years with no problems
yes any pressure gauge can be used if it reads to the numbers you need! but because of the pulsing from fuel pressure if you dont use a liquid filled one they will die much much quicker and not give you a nice smooth reading!
Thanks again for all the replies.
I should really give some feedback points for all this excellent advice. Add to reputation etc.
This one fits my budget.

Yes you can, i actually rang the manufacture of the gauges that we had installed ina customers car and got htem to send a 2nd oil pressure sender, i then put it in the fuel line and use a rocker switch to read between fuel pressure and oil pressure, and its been handy and accuarate as.

theres also speco gauges http://www.speco.com.au/gauges.html
i dont know what their like but this is what im about to run in my car. when you need all your gauges i cant see the point of spending $2k on autometer.
i read somewhere that in a "guage test" in a mag with all boost gauges that speco rated fairly highly in the accuracy stakes
I can honestly tell you that they arnt that great (speco gauges) they arnt accurate and there diffirence in temp reading changes accuracy throughout the range. upto 20 deg c diffirence at an eng temp of 86 deg c the gauge reads over 100 deg c. Spend a little extra and get some VDO gauges.
