Default Silicone Spray for Noisy Belt ?

My airconditioning belt has been making
some mild screeching noise when the
    compressor cuts in.

Might spraying some silicone lubricant, or
better still, rubbing a little of that Perma Glass
silicone liquid meant for renewing wiper blades,
along the belt edges do any good ?

Run a bar of soap under the belt.

    Considered getting a new belt?

Dry Lube and BeltGrip are a couple of products that come to mind.

Are you sure its the belt, and not the compressor itself?

It's the belt. I had the aircon man check the
compressor and he said the clutch bearing,
    etc, is still ok.

Er..... the belt was replaced just about 6 months
ago. These Japanese "Bando" belts have gone
down noticeably in quality over the years.

I disagree , a bando belt will still do 200000 klm , maybe not over 30 yrs but over 10 years it will .
The genuine belts are twice as good as the non gen belts.

spraying the belt can fix it, but it can also be abit of a bandaid jobbie. you might find that it will last for a little while and then it gets noisy again once the lube wears off.

tighten the belt, it may be that. it might even be a noisy bearing in the pulley???

another quick fix is chalk, or take the belt off and rub off the shinyness with fine sandpaper
    or steel wool.

Thanks, everyone. The users in this forum
    are really helpful and prompt.

The idler pulley tensioner has been tightened,
and the bearing replaced recently too. I'll try
    replacing the tensioner though.

Wonder if the pulley groove is worn out too,
maybe I'll need to replace it as well.
